A fascinating read, posted by our Associate Director

Since the Pandemic, 41% of employees are considering quitting their jobs or changing careers altogether

Prevention is better than cure they say......................

Those stats were from a recent research study from Microsoft - it has become a serious issue for Employers; but it is not too late for Employers to take control.

As we know, Employees, generally speaking, are in the pursuit of a better work-life balance, as, according to one study, 25% cited the need to better balance home and family life as their reason for leaving. This is just one way to help staff retention.

❓❔ So what is the answer, and how can we hire, integrate, and retain better as Employers.

Current Employees want change and it's up to you as their Employer to pay attention to their needs and, where possible, make those changes.

Not one size fits all - understanding your people is critical - simple things such as listening to your Employees, and acting on concerns or worries the best you can, will go along way.

Businesses must put all Employees at the heart of your company's culture and have that communication lead to effective, positive change. An organisation that puts its people first is one that will thrive.

Make sure you stay connected, whether they work in the office or WFH. By focusing on Employee engagement, you'll ensure that every member of staff understands exactly how their role impacts the business and contributes to the wider goals of the organisation.

I am a strong believer in having regular review meetings - don't save them to your standard annual review meeting. Employee satisfaction is an ever-moving target, and if you neglect the importance of dealing with issues as and when they arise, the lasting effects will be far more potent.

✳ You don't have to break the bank in order to retain staff, but make sure you pay people as much as you can afford to, based on their performance, experience and time with the company. It won't go unnoticed and will negate the need for any uncomfortable pay-rise discussions.

So in a nutshell, to help aid you retaining staff, truly listen to your employers and understand them, make them feel fabulous, support and reward, and work together and have everyone pulling in the same difference to reach your company goals.

I am sure I have missed many points, but these are the ones that came to my mind

One in five (21%) people still aren’t ready to get back to normal life – and that includes to the office – new research has revealed.

The findings, by life insurance broker Reassured, also found that over one-third (37%) of Brits say that they have felt more stressed since the lifting of lockdown restrictions in July.

The pandemic continues to be a massive stress trigger across the nation, with ongoing uncertainty around Covid-19 coming out as the top cause for concern (24%).

Na na na na na na na na na na........META !

Facebook is in the fight for its life, but it won't be the regulatory pressure that will kill it. Zuckerberg is leaning heavily on "metaverse" as a lifeboat to save a declining user base. He has long known that the future of Facebook is rooted in owning a major hardware platform.

Facebook's brand pivot to "Meta" last week week is the third inning of a multibillion dollar game of balance sheet roulette. Let's see if consumers adopt and make it a reality — all of Meta/Facebook is at stake.

As an investor in VR and AR since 2016, I find it cautiously encouraging to hear all the talk of "metaverse" on trending business channels today. Could this really be the time for VR?

WFH - how successful has it been, and have we embraced it

✳ The UK Recruitment Index 2021 by the Association of Professional Staffing Companies and Saffery Champness found that 30% of firms are now happy to allow staff to work five days out of the office, while most businesses are allowing staff to work two to three days out of the office.

✳ Overall, the Index showed that recruitment firms were able to adapt their strategy quickly to cope with the impact of the pandemic. "Organisational resilience is looking more promising than last year and firms appear to feel more financially stable at the moment," said APSCo CEO Ann Swain and Jamie Cassell, head of the recruitment sector group at Saffery Champness, in their opening comment.

✳ Pre-pandemic, the report went on to say, 57% of firms said that all staff were expected to be in the office for the whole week or at minimum, four days a week. "The pandemic forced firms to quickly look at their remote working capabilities and, as shown throughout the Index, the impact of people working from home was not significant," the report said. "New technology allows them to monitor staff performance and reduce some of their fixed costs via home working. For staff, greater flexibility in working practices helps their wellness and motivation."

✳ A vast majority (93%) said they would not change the remuneration of consultants that want to work from home in the future. Only 4% said they "would consider" reducing remuneration to take into account lower travel costs.

✳ However, the report warned: "It is important that any change in policy considers the morale of the workforce and its impact on the performance of the firm."
